Stay Motivated as the cold weather approaches

What is the biggest barrier when trying to reach one’s health goals?

Is staying motivated the major issue? Motivation… the inner sense of “keep going” … even when we would really like (some days) to pull the covers up over our heads and just stay put!

It takes effort to get from where we are to where we want to be, and many obstacles creep up on our path to success. The truth is that staying motivated is exponentially harder than simply getting inspired, especially when the goal is unclear, distant or difficult to achieve.

Additionally, life throws many surprises that can set us back and make us question our motivation, and ultimately our goals. When doubt creeps in, it’s easy to lose the initial excitement, get discourage
and give up on are goals. One of the most surprising things about motivation is that it often comes after starting a new behaviour, not before. Motivation is often the result of action, not the cause of it. Getting started, even in very small ways, is a form of active inspiration that naturally produces momentum that can be a far more powerful motivator.

Something as simple as creating new daily habits can help to automate and provide a mindless way to initiate behaviour. These everyday habits can be as simple as making your bed, drinking a glass of water minutes after walking up or a walk around the block before breakfast. Anyone of these habits can cause a domino effect of other smart choices and positive practices throughout the day which in the end will help you to stay motivated to obtain all your health goals.

I have met many family and friends that play sports in this location and it is by far the best centre I have been to!

WALKING

Prioritizing the health and function of your body is something few think about until damage has already started. By learning and understanding our body’s movements, you help resolve the
localized symptom often created by a general problem.

Prioritizing the health and function of your body is something few think about until damage has already started. By learning and understanding our body’s movements, you help resolve the
localized symptom often created by a general problem. Walking is a fundamental movement pattern that we often take for granted.

Walking is a dynamic representation of our “posture” and puts our lower body mobility to the test. Our feet are a great example of a possible compensations / problems that can lead to chronic aches and pains thought out the body specifically, are ankles, knees and hips. Walking with your feet straight is bio mechanically advantageous, as it is how propulsion works best at the toe off.

Walking directly through your ankle-foot-toe from initial contact until toe-off is how we are designed to walk. People often compensate by walking around their ankle to foot/toes. This happens by turning the
feet out, spinning outwards off the big toe, collapsing through the arches lead to aggravating conditions.

The good news is that all of this is workable and can be improved over time. Start by mindful walking with your feet straight, trying to walk directly through your ankles/feet/toes. You can trouble shoot from there, based on how it feels. This will change over time, and you will be taking advantage of the natural windlass mechanism of the foot/arch when it comes to propulsion. Another great way to improve our lower body mobility and help with our problematic areas is to be
able to be comfortable on the balls of your feet. Strengthening your big toes can cause lots of good things to happen. The best way to fix them?

Spend time off your heels and spend time walking around barefoot or in footwear that has a flexible toe area. Change the environment you put your feet in and automatically improve your lower body issues. Be patient and consistent and see how simple restoring your body can be.
